TIMANFAYA NATIONAL PARK – A JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH
The Timanfaya National Park is the greatest exponent of Lanzarote’s volcanic nature. Born from the violent eruptions that took place between 1730 and 1736, this landscape of ochre, red and black tones seems taken from another planet. It is a place where time seems to have stood still, showing the raw and overwhelming beauty of the earth’s interior.
Known as the Mountains of Fire, Timanfaya is one of the most visited natural parks in Spain and a symbol of the island. Its silhouettes of craters, its seas of solidified lava and the absence of vegetation create a hypnotic setting that captivates every visitor.
The park is not only a visual spectacle but also a geological laboratory. In the Islote de Hilario, you can witness geothermal demonstrations that show that the volcano is still alive: from geysers that sprout with force to the natural heat emanating from the ground, capable of cooking food in the famous El Diablo Restaurant, designed by César Manrique.
The visit includes the Volcano Route, a journey through the heart of the park where you can contemplate the most impressive formations without altering the fragile ecosystem. It is an essential experience to understand the history and soul of Lanzarote.

THE TIMANFAYA EXPERIENCE
Accessing Timanfaya is entering a world of contrasts. The main visit is done by bus (guagua) from the visitor centre at the Mountains of Fire, following a route carefully designed to offer the best panoramic views of the craters and lava tubes.
For those looking for a different experience, there is the possibility of doing the Camel Route, a traditional and fun way to travel through the volcanic landscape on the slopes of the park. It is an activity highly valued by families and offers a unique perspective of the surroundings.
Beyond the official route, the National Park offers the Tremesana Route and the Coastal Route, guided walking tours (with prior reservation) that allow you to explore the flora, fauna and geology of the park in a more intimate and detailed way.
In the surroundings, you cannot miss El Golfo with its Green Lagoon, the Los Hervideros cliffs or the Janubio Salt Pans. Together, they form a natural route of incomparable beauty that shows the most volcanic and authentic face of the south of Lanzarote.
Tip: Try to arrive early in the morning to avoid waiting times at the entrance. Don’t forget your camera and, above all, allow yourself time to enjoy the silence and the energy of this unique place in the world. It is a true gift of nature and the purest essence of the Canaries.
