What to visit in Lanzarote
A Different Island
Lanzarote is the northernmost and easternmost of the islands in the Canarian archipelago. Despite not exceeding 800 square kilometres in area, its landscape diversity is truly striking. The volcanic eruptions of the 18th and 19th centuries have given it a spectacular appearance of unique form and beauty. Alongside unusual spots formed by volcanic grottoes, lava lakes, and craters, lie golden sand beaches and crystal-clear waters.
Furthermore, this spectacular natural heritage has been zealously preserved by the people of Lanzarote; indeed, the island was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1993. Similarly, in 2015, it became the first destination worldwide to be certified by Biosphere Responsible Tourism.
