CUEVA DE LOS VERDES – A JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH
Cueva de los Verdes is one of Lanzarote’s most fascinating natural treasures. It is part of the extensive volcanic tube of the La Corona Volcano, which stretches from the crater to the sea, creating a system of underground galleries unique in the world.
This impressive natural setting was shaped by lava more than 5,000 years ago and, thanks to the artistic intervention of César Manrique and Jesús Soto, it has become a space where geology, light, and music come together in perfect harmony.
The guided tour, lasting approximately one hour, covers nearly one kilometre of illuminated passages that reveal the whimsical shapes of solidified lava, natural vaults, and a mysterious inner lake. Every corner surprises with its play of light and reflections, transforming the cave into a visual spectacle.
In the past, this place served as a refuge for the island’s inhabitants against pirate attacks. Today, it is one of the most visited sites in Lanzarote, a symbol of its volcanic identity and its respect for nature.

DISCOVER THE MAGIC OF CUEVA DE LOS VERDES
The tour through Cueva de los Verdes is a sensory experience. As you move through its passages, the artistic lighting highlights the textures and colours of the basalt, creating an almost mystical atmosphere. One of the most surprising points is the Natural Auditorium, where intimate concerts are held thanks to its exceptional acoustics.
Each visit is guided by experts who explain the geological origin of the volcanic tube and its curiosities, including the cave’s best-kept secret—a final surprise that leaves those who discover it speechless.
Nearby, you can visit Jameos del Agua, part of the same volcanic system, or enjoy panoramic views of the north of the island from Mirador del Río. It is also an ideal area for landscape photography and exploring volcanic nature in its purest form.
The cave is located about 25 minutes by car from Arrecife and offers free parking. Visits are conducted in groups and no advance booking is necessary, although arriving early is recommended to avoid waiting times.
Tip: Wear comfortable shoes and avoid using flash in photographs to fully appreciate the natural lighting. If you enjoy places with history, art, and mystery, Cueva de los Verdes is a mandatory stop in Lanzarote.
