EL GOLFO – LANZAROTE’S GREEN LAGOON
El Golfo is one of the most impressive places in Lanzarote, a small fishing village next to a volcanic crater open to the sea. Inside it is the famous Charco de los Clicos, an intense green lagoon that contrasts with the black sand and the blue of the Atlantic.
This corner is the result of the erosion of the ancient volcano and the action of the ocean over the centuries. Its surreal beauty makes it an essential place for those who wish to discover the strength and balance of Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape.
The green colour of the lagoon is due to the presence of microalgae that reflect sunlight on the salt water. The lagoon is separated from the sea by a stretch of sand and is considered one of the most unique natural wonders of the Canary Islands.
From the viewpoint located on the cliff, you get one of the most spectacular views of the island: the green lake, the black sand and the blue sea merge into a unique colour palette. It is a mandatory stop for any visitor to Lanzarote.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN EL GOLFO
El Golfo is much more than its famous lagoon. This picturesque fishing village offers a quiet and authentic atmosphere, with white houses facing the sea and several fresh fish restaurants where you can taste the most genuine flavours of Lanzarote.
The nearby coast home to other natural gems, such as Los Hervideros, where waves crash forcefully into lava tunnels, and the Janubio Salt Flats, a spectacle of colours at sunset. The entire environment combines volcanic strength with the calm of the ocean.
Strolling at sunset through the El Golfo viewpoint is one of the most beautiful experiences on the island. The colours of the sky reflected over the green lagoon and the sea create an unforgettable postcard, especially as the sun goes down.
If you are a photography lover, this is one of the most recommended places in Lanzarote: the combination of volcanic textures, water reflections and colour contrasts is pure inspiration. Furthermore, its proximity to the Timanfaya National Park makes it an ideal stop on any route through the southwest of the island.
Tip: visit El Golfo in the late afternoon and stay for dinner by the sea. The breeze, the sound of the waves and a plate of fresh fish will be the perfect end to a day of exploration in Lanzarote.
