PAPAGAYO BEACH – LANZAROTE’S NATURAL PARADISE
Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Canary Islands, Papagayo Beach is a corner of golden sand and turquoise waters located in the south of Lanzarote, within the Los Ajaches Natural Monument. It is a place where nature is shown in its purest state, without buildings or noise, only the sound of the sea and the Atlantic breeze.
Its crystal-clear waters and protected environment make Papagayo the ideal destination for those seeking tranquillity, beauty and a connection with nature. It is perfect for swimming, snorkelling or simply relaxing under the sun with views of the ocean and Fuerteventura.
Papagayo is part of a series of small coves separated by volcanic rock cliffs, including Caleta del Congrio, Playa Mujeres and Puerto Muelas. All of them offer a virgin landscape and a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for escaping the hustle and bustle and enjoying the most authentic Lanzarote.
Access is via a dirt track or by boat from the Marina Rubicón harbour. The reward: a picture-postcard corner with fine sand, warm waters and an infinite horizon facing the Atlantic.

THINGS TO DO AT PAPAGAYO BEACH
In addition to enjoying a swim in its crystal-clear waters, Papagayo is ideal for snorkelling and discovering the marine life that inhabits the volcanic rocks. Clear days even allow you to see the silhouette of Fuerteventura on the horizon.
The beach faces south, which guarantees sun and shelter from the wind for most of the year. Its protected natural environment and quiet atmosphere make it a perfect place for couples, families or travellers looking to disconnect.
From the cliffs surrounding the cove, you can contemplate one of Lanzarote’s most beautiful panoramic views. It is a perfect place to watch the sunset or take photographs of the volcanic landscape merging with the sea.
Near the access point, you will find a small beach bar (‘chiringuito’) where you can have a drink while enjoying the surroundings. You can also reach it on foot from Playa Blanca via a coastal route with stunning views along the cliffs.
Tip: bring water, sunscreen and comfortable footwear. The dirt track access road is passable by car, but it is advisable to drive slowly. If you go at sunset, don’t forget your camera: the colours of the sky reflected on the sea are unforgettable.
